Hi!Alice,

Sometimes I have the same problem. And I think you need to communicate with your parents.

First, ask your parents for more information about the family party and decide which is more important for you. Second, tell your parents what

you think about it. If you decide not to go to the family party, you’d better tell them that you love them and other family members very much. Last

but not least, be polite when refusing the invitation.  It’s always necessary to think carefully before making a decision.

I hope what I said can help you.

Yours,

Li Hua

听力录音材料:

1. M: What can I do for you?

W: I want to buy a schoolbag.

2. W: It seems there is much rain this year in Beijing.

M: That’s true. The radio says it’s going to rain tomorrow.

3. W: How was your trip to the Great Wall, Mike?

M: Amazing. I have never been to such a wonderful place.

4. M: Do you go to any club after school, Jane?

W: Yes. I learn dancing every Friday afternoon.

5. W: Hi, Tony. Are you going to do anything exciting this weekend?

M: Well, I’m going to celebrate my birthday.

W: Fantastic! When is your birthday, exactly?

M: It’s May 10th.

W: So what are your plans?

M: Well, my friend Susan is going to take me out to have a big meal.

W: Nice! Is she going to order a cake?

M: Yeah, and the waiters are probably going to sing “Happy Birthday” to me.

6. M: Mary, is this girl in the photo your sister?

W: Yes. That’s my sister, Sue.

M: What does she do?

W: She works for the government. She’s working for a secret project right now.

M: Wow! And this one must be your brother, Peter.

W: Yes. He’s a wildlife photographer.

M: What an interesting family! Can I meet them?

W: Uh, no. Sue’s away. She has left America, and she is in Europe this month.

M: And your brother?

W: He’s traveling in Asia.

7. M: Morning, Lily. So…are you going to practice running for the sports meet tomorrow? I mean, I know you can’t go outside now, in the

rain…

W: Well, I’ve already practiced a lot. The radio said that the rain will stop later, but it’ll be followed by strong winds!

M: Oh, don’t worry. They’ll disappear tonight, according to the latest weather report on the Internet, so it will be fine tomorrow. And those

weather reports are always right!

W: Oh, good!

8. W: So, Steven, what are you going to do this summer?

M: Well, I’m going to the beach with my parents for a week, but I suppose I really should get a summer job. I haven’t planned anything yet,

but I really need to get some money. What about you, Jane?

W: I’m going to Scotland for the summer.

M: For the whole summer?

W: Yes. I’m going to work in a restaurant in the mountains.

M: Really? That sounds great!

W: Yes, I think so. I mean, the work won’t be very interesting. It’ll be mostly cooking, cleaning and selling drinks and things. But my hours are

seven till ten in the morning and five till nine in the evening, so I’ll have plenty of time during the day to go walking.

M: That sounds fun! It’ll be like a holiday, but you’ll be making money too.

W: Yes, it’s a chance to get out of the city and maybe meet some new people.

9. I’m Lucy Holmes and I’m here today to tell you about my work. People ask me why I decided to start a new magazine. Well, I’ve been working

for newspapers and magazines for many years. I’ve always dreamt of starting my own magazine, not because I want to be rich but because I

want to do something different. And now I’ve done it! It is different from other magazines and I’m sure it’s going to be successful.

So what’s the magazine like? It’s the same size as the local weekly newspaper, but it doesn’t carry news and it doesn’t report on events as they

happen. I think this is the important difference. You can buy it in all the usual places you would buy newspapers. It comes out each Thursday.

The first part of the magazine is a “What’s on” guide. It tells the information about everything that’s happening in the city over a seven-day

period. There are music and film reviews, and information about special events. There are also reports on restaurants. But these are not

advertisements. They are the honest opinions of our reporters.

That’s one part of the magazine; the other part is the articles. We want to write about the lives of the people in the town. They may be famous or

not but they have all done something interesting such as developing a new business. We hope to interview a lot of different people. So, anyone

who’s interested in …

10. W: Hello, Dan, it’s Milly here.

M: Hi.

W: I’m phoning to ask about your guitar lessons. My parents are thinking about buying me an electric guitar.

M: Oh, great. Well, the lessons are given every Sunday morning.

W: What’s the teacher’s name?
M: She’s called Alison Hart. She’s very good.

W: How do you spell her family name?

M: It’s H-A-R-T.

W: And how much is a lesson?

M: It’s twenty-six pounds for an hour.

W: That sounds good. And where do you have the lessons? At her house?

M: That’s right. She lives at 34 East Street. It’s close to the city centre. You’ll find it easily.

W: Have you got her phone number?

M: Yes, it’s 5366-4783.

W: Thanks, Dan. I’ll call her tonight.

M: OK. Make sure you call before nine o’clock. She doesn’t like it if people call later than that.

W: All right. Thanks for your help.
